The Amazon Prime Day Dates Have Been Announced—& It's Happening Way Earlier Than Last Year

When is Amazon Prime Day this year? Rumors have been circulating for a couple of months, and even though the retailer hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, there are dates that experts believe the sale will fall on. While the annual Amazon deal-shopping event (AKA Black Friday junior) typically happens in the summer, it was pushed back to October last year due to the pandemic — like everything else in our lives in 2020. And last year, Prime Day happened on June 21st and June 22nd.

So what about this year? Experts at Digital Commerce 30 narrowed down a time frame this summer, but it’s much later than the anticipated Prime Day last year. Based on an announcement that Amazon gave its selected sellers on the platform, there are hints that Prime Day may be on July 11th or July 18th — which makes sense to choose the second week of July to bypass all of the Fourth of July excitement and those taking vacations and not paying attention to shopping.

Let’s play Nancy Drew for a minute. In a recent statement, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) gave its sellers a deadline of June 20th to have their inventory stocked in time for Prime Day 2022. Fahim Naim, head of Amazon at Advantage Unified Commerce told Digital Commerce in a previous interview that “for the past three years, the FBA inventory cutoff date was on average 24 days before Prime Day.” So, 24 days after the seller cutoff lands us on July 4th, which isn’t a strategic day to have a sale. The following Monday — July 11th aligns with the retailer’s past Prime Days.

Reminder: Amazon Prime Day is exclusive to Prime members, so if you aren’t one already (you’ve got nothing to lose but deals and access to Amazon exclusive content), it’s time to prep yourself for the savings extravaganza and sign up now. Prime Day is the best time to stock up on Instant Pots, vacuums, cookware, and more, so you many want to hold off on buying those items until the event rolls around.
