New Year’s Eve is always a big night out.

Filled with champagne and new promises, it’s the end of one era and the start of another.

It is only right that we celebrate such a momentous rite of passage.

However, for those who don’t like sparkles, the fashion of the night can be difficult to navigate.

It’s all sequins and glitter, and while we do love a chance to shine, not everyone has the same sartorial inclinations.

So what does one wear if you don’t like shimmering?

Well, you are in luck because ’tis the season’ of sumptuous fabrics. Think velvet, tulle and satin in experimental shapes.

All the while, look for points of difference on items such as floral motifs or bows.

Our favourite non-sparkle pieces include Sister Jane’s one-of-a-kind yellow tulle mini dress and NA-KD’s tweed green suit.

Meanwhile, River Island’s satin midi dress is the right amount of fun and elegance making it the perfect choice to help you ring in a new year.

And so, here are 13 of the best items to shop now before December 31st.
