If you haven’t already heard, the Barbie movie is currently being filmed out in L.A. Though it’s not being released in cinemas until July 2023 (sob), we’re getting our fix through some of the behind-the-scenes content coming from the set, namely in the form of the very bronzed and very glam looking acting talent, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
We’ve seen snippets of the duo in full neon lycra on roller skates, we’ve heard Margot’s perky Barbie voice, and now we’ve uncovered another BTS secret: the fake tan being used to give our favourite doll-like duo their Malibu glow.
How do we know this?Kimberley Nkosi, sunless tanning expert, has been speaking of her experience so far on the Barbie set, naming some of her go-to items for giving Ryan a Ken-worthy glow. We’re not sure if the same products are being used on Margot, but if Kimberley is the movie tanning expert, it seems likely.
“For me, applying sunless tanner isn’t about spraying something on and hoping for the best. It’s about a feeling more than a look,” Kimberley explains in the caption of a new Instagram post.
“Plus, when you work on set there’s so many things to take into consideration; the camera picks up every little detail and can completely change the appearance of the tan, especially under lights. Being mindful of this and being consistent is key to achieving a flawless tan each and every time.”
She goes on to explain that her “go to products to achieve Ryan’s golden glow” are mostly from Isle of Paradise, the brainchild of former Strictly Come Dancing fake tanner Jules Von Hep.
“Tan is Isle of Paradise, ALWAYS in medium with a touch of dark to balance his under tone and make sure he was camera ready. Prep is Isle of Paradise, Glossier mango butter, Dr Hauschka Lemongrass vitalising body oil,” Kimberley adds.
