MOVE over Essex, there's a new fake tan capital in town.
Glasgow may not be known for its good weather, but its residents are determined to showcase a sun-kissed glow as sales of artificial bronzers have rocketed in the Scottish city.
According to retail figures from BeautyFlash.co.uk, Glaswegians spent a total of £62,272 on make-up products – £3,500 of which was on fake tan.
It's a rise of more than 40 per cent over the past six months – meaning it overtakes Essex when it comes to faking the bake.
Despite its locals being renowned for being brown – courtesy of TOWIE – residents in the south east county spent just £928 on fake tan from the site, out of a total spend of £18,711 on make up.
Neighbouring Edinburgh wasn't far behind Glasgow – locals from the Scottish capital spent £61,519 on beauty products – £1,600 of which was on fake tan.

Fake tan biggest spenders in the past six months
1. Glasgow – £3,500 (total beauty spending £62,272)
2. Edinburgh – £1,600 (total beauty spending £61,519)
3. Aberdeen – £977 (total beauty spending £25,090)
4. Surrey – £976 (total beauty spending £65,761)
5. Essex – £928 (total beauty spending £18,711)
Aberdeen was third in line, with residents shelling out £977 on the product, a total beauty spend of £25,090.
Essex was fifth on the biggest spenders list, falling behind Surrey.
By contrast, the least popular place for fake tan buying was the Scottish Orkney Islands, followed by the Shetlands and Dumfries, suggesting the further north in Scotland you get, the less people are bothered about looking bronzed.

4. Inverness – £106 (total beauty spending £12,420)

Becky Prentice, 35, of Glasgow, told how she switched to fake tan five years ago after ditching sunbeds.
She explained: "I used to use sunbeds to top up my tan, but stopped five years ago and switched to fake tan.
"It's not that sunny in Glasgow, so I need something to give me a glow – it's either fake tan or going on holiday to Spain every month, which I can't afford!"
