A therapist who also works as a model has opened up about how her two professions occasionally collide.
It can be a bit awkward when her clients discover how attractive their therapist is.
Jamie Lynn models and has over 11,000 followers on Instagram. She also works as a marriage and family therapist, helping couples settle their disputes.
But, despite her professional qualifications, Jamie has revealed that she is often judged by potential clients because of her looks.
Sharing her story on the Michael Sartain Podcast, the model explained: “It’s just like a regular job… When I say therapist, what I always get is, ‘oh, massage therapist’.
“Now I’m like, ‘no I’m actually a licensed marriage and family therapist’, and I think most people are surprised by that because attractiveness kind of disqualifies you from having a position of authority sometimes.”
So, Jamie described how some women had not been happy to find out that she would be their marriage therapist.
“It doesn’t happen often, but I have had situations where I do get appointments for couples and I’ve had the women refuse to meet with me," she admitted.
“I’ve had women literally get up and walk out of my office, and they won’t let their husbands come see me or anything like that.”
And, alongside these exceptional cases, Jamie also revealed that men will sometimes cross her professional boundaries and attempt to chat her up.
“I’ve had guys hit on me,” she confessed.
“I haven’t had a guy get marriage counselling and hit on me, but I’ve definitely had many clients ask me out on dates, or they’ll give me gifts.”
Jamie also opened up to Michael about how she had got started in working as a therapist, noting: “It just kind of found me. It wasn’t something that I was actually trying to do.”
The model remembered how she had been in high school, uncertain about what she wanted to do, when she considered that she might make a good psychologist.
“I stuck with it, and I started attracting these opportunities… I found myself in positions where people would share with me, or I just kind of was a natural helper or healer,” she said.
