They sat in silence for an hour and he 'couldn't find' his credit card

They sat in silence for an hour and he ‘couldn’t find’ his credit card — so why does Rachel want to see Nosa again?

RACHEL, 33

Single

Dating past?

I’ve been single for three years after a terrible seven-year relationship. So I’m looking for a fresh start.

I have ADHD and would like someone who can handle my bubbly moments as well as my quiet ones.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Yes, plus I was in a mad rush to get my train, so I just wore smart trousers and a top to feel comfortable. I arrived first and ordered a cocktail to calm my nerves.

First Impressions?

I was surprised by how nice he was; he came across as warm with a lovely smile and great eyes.

He was dressed like a gentleman, too, in a smart checked shirt, which I liked. He held out his hand for a handshake, which felt a bit formal and awkward as I’m a hugger, but we started chatting easily.

Rachel, 33, would like to meet a gym bunny who’s kind, witty and talks a lot, much like herself

Easy To Talk To?

At one point I got carried away babbling about anything and everything and then went quiet to catch my breath, but he kept the conversation going and we chatted amiably.

We didn’t have that much in common so occasionally our exchanges felt a bit stop and start, but we had a few laughs.

Embarrassing Moments?

He had to endure my initial hanger (when being hungry makes you feel cross) as I was desperate for the food to arrive, but he didn’t seem to mind.

Did Sparks Fly?

I’m flirtatious by nature but I wasn’t feeling flirty towards him, it was more friendly and relaxed. That’s not to say there isn’t potential for something, though.

We got the same train home and he did say: ‘Maybe next time it’ll be less awkward.’

We chatted for the first ten minutes or so on the journey, then spent most of the next hour in silence. But this didn’t bother me at all — we were both winding down. I liked the fact he messaged me later to check I’d got home ok.

Rachel is keen to see Nosa again even though the pair sat in silence for an hour on their journey home

Would you like to meet again?

Yes. I’m keen to see if there is something more than friendship.

What do you think he thought of you?

I honestly don’t know, but I was very up and down — both bubbly and hangry — so he might think I’m crazy.

Would your family and friends like him?

They’d like him if I like him and he’s very chilled so I can’t see him being fazed by anyone.

NOSA, 29

Single, never married

Dating past?

I’ve been single for five years. I’ve had one serious relationship and have done some online dating, but it’s time-consuming and hard to know what people are really like.

Pre-Date Nerves?

I was nervous. I like to dress up for a date so I wore a smart green shirt and blue trousers.

Nosa, 29, would like to meet someone pretty, amiable and independent but with a strong sense of family

First Impressions?

My expectations were low for a blind date, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw her. She had a lovely smile and I liked her energy.

Easy To Talk To?

Initially it was awkward because we were both nervous, but over time the conversation began to flow more easily.

We both like similar music and she’s got thousands of songs in her phone library, so it was good to compare notes.

Once she started to open up, I enjoyed the way she spoke and her enthusiasm for life.

Embarrassing Moments?

When the bill came, I initially couldn’t find my credit card so Rachel jumped in and offered to pay.

I appreciated the gesture but usually I’d like to show a girl I can take care of her and always pay on the first date. After all, it’s the gentlemanly thing to do.

Did Sparks Fly?

Neither of us were overtly flirting but I always think a spark can come later.

We swapped Instagram details — I got to see her more adventurous side on her profile — and we’ve exchanged a few messages.

We had to say goodbye on a public train so it was a casual farewell, but I would have given her a hug if fewer people were watching. It felt too early for a kiss though.

Would you like to meet again?

Yes, but I’d love to go for a walk next time rather than sit in a noisy restaurant. That way, we can talk more and relax a little, instead of sitting across a table like we’re in an interview.

Nosa would like to see Rachel again too, but thinks it would work better if they went for a walk rather than sitting in a noisy restaurant

What do you think she thought of you?

I hope she thought that I was friendly and kind — someone with potential.

Would your family and friends like her?

She’s sociable and could put anyone at ease so, yes, I believe so. What a great experience for a first blind date.
