A shopper has revealed why the real reason your body looks different in every changing room mirror, and it’s got nothing to do with your size and everything to do with the lighting and the mirrors.
Bree Lenehan, 26, from Queensland, went into four different changing rooms at her local shopping centre and took photos of herself in the same pose wearing the same dress.
And while some were more flattering due to good mirrors and soft lighting, others were more unflattering and showed every part of her physique.

‘All fitting rooms are different. So be kind to yourself. You never know what external factors are at play,’ Bree posted on Instagram.
‘A “bad body image day” can be triggered by many things. Sometimes it’s seeing yourself in the mirror, sometimes it’s sizing up or down in clothes, sometimes it’s comparing yourself to others… Just to name a few.’
Bree added: ‘But a lot of the time, what you see doesn’t reflect the reality of the situation. Whether that’s in the mirror, trying on clothes or seeing photos online’.
The 26-year-old said it’s important to remember that we are ‘our own harshest critics’, you only ever see yourself in mirrors or photos which are disorientating and ‘lighting, angles, posing, different lenses and mirrors all change the way we look – especially in fitting rooms’.

Bree said while some stores use ‘mirror manipulation’ and softer lighting to make you look good and ‘hide your lumps and bumps’, other stores don’t bother – and instead opt for wide mirrors or harsh lighting ‘which casts shadows over your body and exaggerates every feature’.
‘Sizing [in stores] differs so much,’ she added.
‘I size up and down depending on the store or fit… You are not your size. You are not your appearance. There is so much more to you than that.’

‘Thank you for sharing this. Been having some bad body image days,’ another added.
