Mince pies are a key part of any festive spread and those who prefer a savoury treat can now pick up the Christmas classic in the form of a packet of crisps. 

Walkers have launched three Yuletide flavours for 2021 including mince pies – which are said to have all the sweetness of mincemeat with the crunch of crisps.

And that’s not all, the crisp giant has also made roast potato and pigs in blankets flavours – which has lead to a mixed reaction online.

After being posted online by viral Instagram food account Kev’s Snack Reviews – hundreds of people commented with some saying they ‘loved’ the unusual flavours while other called them a festive flop.

The crisps cost £1 for a multipack of five and are available at Tesco, with part of the proceeds going towards Comic Relief.

They have all the flavours in a traditional mince pie – including sugar, fructose, salt, and fruit powder.

Writing on Twitter, one fan said: ‘Bravo for the truly delectable Mince Pie flavour. It shouldn’t work and they should be an abomination but it actually really does and they’re not!’ 

Another added: ‘Have to say mince pie flavour are weirdly wonderful’.

A third wrote: ‘Taste exactly like mince pies!!! My mind is going mad over this’.

However, others were less than optimistic – with some branding them ‘gross’ and ‘criminal’ and ‘wrong’.

‘They are quite certainly the most disgusting thing I have ever had in my mouth,’ said one.

‘These are vile and just plain wrong,’ added another.

‘The limited edition Roast Potato crisps are nice but they do taste very similar to your regular Roast Chicken flavour, perhaps a slightly more subtle flavour,’ said one.  

‘Well @walkers_crisps you can’t fool me. Your new Roast Potato crisps are 100% just Roast Chicken crisps in a different bag,’ added another.  

‘Potato crisps that taste of roast potato, whatever next? Milk flavoured milkshakes?’ commented one.
