DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN I wrote to you, I was at rock bottom, in terrible debt and feeling so ashamed.
To cope, I was regularly self-harming and, at the age of 38, I felt I had nothing left to live for.

I admitted to you I had tried to take my own life.
My family, I believed, would be better off without me. At least they would get my life insurance.
You didn’t just give me platitudes.
You gave me practical ways to deal with my debt, suggesting I contact Turn2us (turn2us.org.uk, 0808 802 2000).
You suggested some relaxation techniques, as well as giving me your self-harm support pack and insisting I see my GP.
You also encouraged me to talk to my husband, being honest about how low I was.
Most importantly, you made me believe I had the tools to change my life for the better.

It’s going to be a long journey, and I have relapsed several times, but I am slowly rebuilding my life and confidence.
Thank you.
