Where to pick up the best – and free – pies to celebrate national pie week

THERE'S nothing quite as comforting as digging into a hearty pie – and you can now indulge in your guilty pleasure without breaking the bank.

That's because it's National Pie Week, which is taking place this week.

This year it's taking place from Monday 5 to Sunday March 11.

For any pie lovers, it's essentially the best excuse to celebrate their penchant for pastry.

Of course, for pubs, bakeries and supermarkets, it marks the perfect opportunity to attract customers with some pretty tasty deals and discounts.

With outdoor temperatures still chilly, we can't wait to tuck into a hot pie at home or down the pub.

So whatever your favourite filling is, here are the best deals around:

The best deals from pubs and companies:

Pieminister – buy one get one free or 50 per cent off

The gourmet pie chain is running different deals throughout the week.

For example, all veggies pies are £2 down from about £5.50 on Tuesday (March 6).

On Wednesday, pies are buy one get one free.

While on Sunday, all prices are 50 per cent off before 1pm.

In homage to the humble pie, Three Cheers pubs will be offering two-for-one on all pies, for two weeks, from March 6 to 19.

National Pie Week actually ends this Sunday, which means the pub chain is giving pie lovers eight extra days of discounts.

Pukka Pies – Win a free pie

The pie firm is inviting its loyal customers to vote for either chips or mash as their favourite side dish.

Once you've voted, you could be one of the lucky few to get a free pie or £100.

Pukka Pies said there will be several winner daily until Sunday 11, when Pie week ends.

The cheapest non branded pies

Aldi – Specially Selected Hand Crimped Melton Mowbray Pork Pie – £1.49, 295g

Aldi is not running any particular deals for National Pie week, but it already has one of the cheapest pie range available on offer.

Prices start at £1.49 for the budget supermarket's pork pie.

It also has a chicken, ham hock, leek and Chardonnay pie on offer for £1.69, as well as a steak and ale pie available for £1.89.

It's worth noting that Aldi's pies are also slightly smaller compared to other supermarkets ranging from 250g to 295g.

Asda – Two Deep Fill Pulled Pork & Cider Pies – £2.50, 570g, or £1.80 for Four Cheese & Veg Pies

Nothing says comfort like chicken pie – and now, thanks to Asda, you can enjoy for a bargain price.

The frozen pies are available for £2.50 for a 570g pack of two. The retailer recommends to cook them for 35 to 40 minutes.

If you're willing to go for a veggie option, there's also a cheese and veg pie selling for £1.80 for a 600g pack of four.

Morrisons – Puff Pastry Steak & Ale Pie, £2, 550g

Morrisons has slashed prices on some of its pies to £2 down from £2.50.

The offer is valid for customer who order their pies by this Sunday, March 18.

The cheapest branded pies

Pukka Pies – £1 at Sainsbury's and Morrisons

Sainsbury's has reduced the prices of all its Pukka Pies – including Chicken and Mushroom, All Steak and Minced Steak and Onion Pies – to £1 from £1.65.

You'll need to order by March 20 to take advantage of the offer.

The same items are also available for the same price from Morrisons but only until March 12.

Fray Bentos – Mince Beef & Onion Pie £1 at Asda

If you're a Fray Bentos fan, you'll be able to find the cheapest pies at Asda, which is selling a 425g pack for £1.

Other varieties like Just Chicken or Chicken and Bacon are also available for the same price.

Morrisons has the next best deal with prices starting at £1.98.

Holland's Pies – Potato & Meat Pies any two for £4 at Iceland

Frozen retailer Iceland is offering a great choice of deals and recipes to celebrate National Pie Week if you want to stock up.

You can choose a chip shop classic with Holland’s range of pies on offer at two for £4.00, including Holland's four Potato & Meat Pies and Holland's four Steak & Kidney Puddings.

These are usually worth £2.25 for one.

The next best deal we found was from Morrisons where one pack of four Holland's pies cost £2.
