DEAR DEIDRE: I’M terrified I’ll get a criminal record after getting caught on a train without a ticket.
I know I should have known better, but when I saw the price of the fare I felt like I had no choice.
I’m a 29-year-old woman, and I was travelling to see my family when a ticket inspector called me out.
Money has been really tight recently, and since moving across the country for work I have felt so lonely.
Being so far away from everyone I love has really got me down.
I was desperate to see my family, so decided to take the risk without thinking through the repercussions if I got caught.

Even though I offered to pay my fine on the spot, the inspector insisted on sending my details off for processing and further investigations.
I’m so worried they will try and make an example of me.
I know I only have myself to blame, but I am petrified.
