An influencer has shared two side-by-side photos to highlight just how easy it is to edit pictures and how fake social media can be.
On a day out to the beach with her mum, social media star Caroline Conneen shared a story to her 53.7k Instagram followers to show how much editing photos can affect people's mental health.
She said that her mum was surprised to witness a stranger taking a photo of themselves before editing it and changing parts of their body.
In her post, Caroline explained: "I had to explain that editing pictures is so common, you really never know if what you're looking at is real or fake anymore, and that is damaging.
"If you're consistently tweaking your pictures, then you're conditioning yourself to never feel like enough.
"Your in-real-life self will never measure up in your mind AND you tank your confidence even more when you think that people only like this edited online version of you."
To go alongside the story, Caroline posted two versions of the same photo, one of which had been edited. On the photos, she wrote "don't compare yourself to people who don't exist".
She followed the photos with optimistic, uplifting quotes that said "everything that you are is enough" and "less perfection more authenticity".
The influencer ended the post with some advice for her followers. She said: "I know that there's so much pressure to look 'perfect' and that editing your body is easy to do, but please for your own mental health AND others, let's keep it real."
Her followers were quick to agree to agree with the body-positive post saying how much they loved and appreciated the honesty with one follower saying "this is exactly what I needed to hear".
