Woman shares trick to save £166 for next Xmas – all you need is Smarties tube

January is often a tough month when it comes to money.

That's because the Christmas period could leave many of us strapped for cash in the New Year.

So if you're in need of a good money-saving hack (we definitely are), then here's something simple you could try.

One woman shared a handy trick for putting away money and all you need is a Smarties tube.

Posting on Facebook in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she shared a photo of her chocolate treat.

And inside you'll find a £2 coin fitting perfectly.

One tube fits a total of 83 coins, so if you do the math… that's £166 once it's full. Pretty handy right?

Let's say you load up a couple of tubes with coins and leave it until the end of this year, you're set for Christmas presents.

Alongside the two snaps, she wrote: "You may all know about this, but I thought I'd share after I saw the envelope trick.

"If you have any of these tubes at home, basically you can just save £2 coins in them over the year.

"And when it's full you'll have £166 towards Christmas."

The Smarties hack was also shared on TikTok where commenters thought it was a grand idea.

One wrote: "So we need to spend our money on Smarties first? Sounds like a plan to me."

While another added: "That's a good idea."

Of course the trick can be inconvenient if you don't carry cash with you – because who still carries notes these days?
