A woman has shared her easy trick for cutting down on supermarket spending – and you can do it too.
Maneet Kaur posted to TikTok to explain about supplier codes on food packaging.
The young woman, from Leicester, claims that many people choose the more expensive brand when shopping, but may be getting the exact same contents as the cheaper packs.
Apparently, many items have the same batch number and supplier codes which mean they’re supplied by the exact same company.
Maneet, who posts on social media @minsmeals, explained that this means there are lots of identical products which are sold at different price points.

Apparently, Maneet decided to look into batch codes on food after seeing a video about medication labelling.
She was shocked to find that there were so many comparable items.
In the TikTok clip, the 28-year-old looked at a 500g packet of penne pasta from Tesco which costs 53p.
She then looked at the supplier code for a 29p packet by Hearty Food Co – and found they were identical.
This means that the products come from the same place, claims Maneet, and that people are paying double for the packaging.
Maneet said: “I work in the food industry so know that whatever product we make will have a supplier code on it for traceability.
“I went into a supermarket and looked at staple foods like beans, pasta and bread and looked at the codes. It didn’t surprise me but essentially it’s all about how these brands market it to the consumer.
"The only thing I can do is make people more aware that buying branded is not always the best option and we need to be more conscious about the tricks supermarkets use."
Maneet also said to make sure you check higher and lower shelves for alternatives to big brands – the expensive options are often stocked at eye line.
