Would you wear the new ‘looped bun’ trend loved by Kim Kardashian and Maura Higgins?

We’ve reinvented the classic hair bun hundreds of times now. From a “Molly-Mae” wrap-around topknot to a simple messy twist, you name it and we’ve probably all tried to recreate it at some point. Now, a new bun trend is taking off: the looped low bun (also known as a “flip” bun).

Celebs like Kim Kardashian and Maura Higgins have worn the style over the past few weeks, prompting us at home to give it a go for ourselves. However, the question is: is this new style a modern twist on a low bun, or does it just look a little bit like a ponytail that hasn’t been properly pulled through an elastic band?

Carl Bembridge’s followers think the look is cute and creative, with plenty of his fans praising the celebrity hairstylist for his work on Maura’s latest looped hairstyle.

“Spectacular job,” commented one fan under the snap of Maura wearing the bun.

Another said: “Love love love this hairstyle!”, while Maura herself wrote: “You creative man”.

Carl may have aced the look but fans weren’t quite as convinced by Kim K’s version of it when she debuted the bun at a Fashion Week show in NYC last week. Though, we don’t see any fault in her hairstylist Chris Appleton’s execution of the style, which he slicked-back and looped to his usual degree of perfection.

On the subject of Kim’s bun, one Twitter user remarked: “Kim better stop trying to make that bun with a tail a trend please,” while a second added: “I have to wear my hair in this Kim Kardashian low bun now because my hair is fried.”

Considering Kim has kept up with her bleach blonde hair for nearly six months now, we do wonder if Chris is getting more creative with bun looks as a way of letting her natural hair recover away from heated tools and extensions, which can worsen the damage and dryness caused by bleach.

If you want to try the looped bun for yourself, it’s quite simple to do. For Kim’s look, you just need to style your hair into a centre parting then pull it back into a sleek ponytail. Pull the bulk of the ponytail back through the hairband loops until you have a small bun loop and a shorter ponytail.

Will you be giving it a go?
