Alfie Moon is coming home to EastEnders with Shane Richie back as fan fave

Over the course of the last 20 years down Albert Square, Alfie Moon was guaranteed to be getting into trouble somehow.

That was until 2019, when Shane Richie left EastEnders.

His absence has been sorely missed by fans, but last week they were given the good news that he’s on his way back.

After three years, Shane is set to make a comeback as Alfie, with some classic Albert Square drama close behind.

Alfie’s return is shrouded in mystery, as the BBC is keeping its cards close to its chest over his inevitably dramatic introduction.

In a statement, the BBC teased: "With the past quickly catching up with him, Alfie decided to flee Walford in 2019, making an enemy of Phil Mitchell in the process.

"So just what is bringing Alfie back to the Square?

"One thing for certain is that things are never straightforward for Alfie, but if anyone can charm their way out of trouble, it’s Alfie Moon."

When is Alfie Moon returning to EastEnders?

An exact premiere date for Alfie’s return has not been confirmed by the BBC.

However, the broadcaster did say he would feature in scenes due to air this autumn.

For now, Shane “can’t wait” to dive back into the soap that made him a household name.

He said: "I’m looking forward to catching up with some old cast mates and meeting some new ones.

"The new exec producer Chris Clenshaw has been instrumental in wanting to bring Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can't wait."

What has Shane Richie been doing since leaving EastEnders?

Shane’s post-EastEnders plans may not have gone the way he intended once Covid-19 swept up on British shores.

The actor has kept a relatively low profile since his last appearance on the soap, but he did make a splash in 2020.

Shane joined I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, but instead of venturing across the globe to the deep jungles of Australia, he instead took a trip to Wales.

The show was forced to use a castle in Wales due to travel restrictions, which ITV also did in 2021.

Ultimately, he was booted from Gwrych Castle, narrowly missing out on becoming its first king.

He came fourth overall, but the public voted him out before the final.
