She is known as a national treasure and a beloved presenter and newsreader after she soared to fame as a BBC broadcaster in the 1970s.

And TV veteran Jan Leeming, 81, has proven that she’s still got what it takes to turn heads walking down the street.

Last week, US TV chef Martha Stewart, also 81, posed up a storm in a sizzling swimsuit on the cover of Sports Illustrated, becoming their oldest ever cover model.

And now in an interview with the Mirror, the former Eurovision Song Contest presenter has decided to do the same in order to share an important message to other older women out there.

The blonde bombshell looked utterly sensational in her glamorous swimsuit photoshoot with the publication where she paraded her ageless figure in the tiny one-piece.

She told the publication: “I’m not giving Martha Stweart a run for her money, but she can do it, and I'm doing it – for all the older women who still have life in them and joie de vivre.”

Unlike many photoshoots, the star made sure her pictures were as real an honest as possible, making sure none of her stunning snaps were airbrushed.

The doting mum-of-one urged: “I just want to say, ‘Please don’t write us all off’. Older people are put into a bracket, they are discriminated against. There are loads of women my age who have still got a lot to give.”

As she worked her best angles for the cameras, Jan candidly confessed that she misses the male attention she used to get on a regular basis.

She confessed: “I’m quite miserable I never get any wolf whistles any more. The last time it happened, I walked past some builders about 30 years ago. I went back and thanked them.”

The star revealed that one of her main secrets to her youthful looks is her clean diet, reducing wine to nights out with friends and rationing cake and chocolate.

And her healthy lifestyle has clearly paid off as she boasted that she is still capable of doing everything she could when she was younger, noting “I can get off the floor without using my hands.”

She added: “I am so fortunate that I can still do everything I’ve ever done albeit perhaps more slowly and with a few aches and pains. Given the opportunity I can still dance the night away.”

It comes after Jan dazzled viewers when she joined Graham Norton at Eurovision a couple of weeks ago in a Gina Fratini dress that she bought back in 1972.

In recent years, the presenter has appeared in a number of reality TV shows, including I’m A Celebrity back in 2006, and even took part in the 2015 BBC documentary The Real Marigold Hotel.

But Jan believes that her best presenting years are behind her, as she noted that older women have slightly better representation on the silver screen but “only up to the age of about 50.”
