Britney Spears has taken to Instagram to share the devastating news that she has lost her "miracle baby".

The singer who confirmed she was expecting with her fiancé Sam Asghari last month has revealed her devastating news to her fans.

Since she and Sam made their relationship official, the Toxic songstress has shared her desire to expand her family and have a child with her fiancé.

In a joint statement, shared across their social media channels, the couple said: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy.

"This is a devastating time for any parent.

"Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news."

They added: "Our love for each other is our strength.

"We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family.

"We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment. Sam & Britney."

Shortly after sharing the emotional post, Britney was flooded with messages of support from her dedicated fans, with one writing: "All the love in the world for you Brit."

"Oh No! Britney, we stay by your side forever. Love u," added a second.

Before a third typed: "I'm so sorry Britney! I know how much you want another baby. It will happen."

"Sending love, light and strength to you both," penned another.

In recent weeks, Britney has been sharing throwback snaps to her social media, as well as wearing oversized clothing in public to stop "paps getting their money shot" of the chart-topper.

The singer confirmed her pregnancy on April 11 and shared the news with fans after Sam had joked she was "food pregnant" after they returned from Maui.

She said: "So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well… I am having a baby"

"4 days later I got a little more food pregnant. It's growing !!! If 2 are in there … I might just loose it…"
