BTS Will Launch a Permission to Dance Challenge With YouTube

On July 23, BTS will kick off an official Permission to Dance Challenge. The challenge will last through Aug. 14 and will take place exclusively on YouTube Shorts. BTS released their single “Permission to Dance” on July 9, and the song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming BTS’ fifth No. 1 hit on the chart.

What is BTS’ Permission to Dance Challenge?

With the Permission to Dance Challenge, fans will be able to come together to dance to BTS’ new single “Permission to Dance.” According to a press release, the Permission to Dance Challenge is “the first-ever worldwide dance challenge on YouTube Shorts.”

The press release also gives more details about the challenge and what it entails, reading:

“Starting this Friday, anyone from across the globe can create a 15-second YouTube Short right from the YouTube mobile app, replicating the core dance moves from the ‘Permission to Dance’ music video. The dance moves for this challenge are the ‘International Sign’ gestures that the septet was seen doing in the music video, bearing the meaning ‘Joy,’ ‘Dance’ and ‘Peace.’ As the ‘Permission to Dance” lyrics encourage listeners to move to the rhythm of their heartbeat, BTS is bringing the world together again with this special dance and inviting people to add their own style to their YouTube Shorts creations.”

When the challenge is completed, BTS will feature a select number of videos in a compilation video. To have a YouTube Short of the Permission to Dance Challenge included, participants should use the hashtags #PermissiontoDance and #Shorts with their videos.

BigHit Music and YouTube released statements about the challenge

In the press release about the Permission to Dance Challenge, Shin Young-Jae, the General Manager of BigHit Music, and Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music, published statements.

“Just as ‘Permission to Dance’ sends the message that you don’t have to ask anyone for permission to dance, we hope that we can bring people all over the world together to dance along with us, free of any limits or constraint. We are very excited to watch this challenge come to life on YouTube Shorts and can’t wait to see what you all create,” Shin said in the press release.

Cohen added, “Breaking record after record on YouTube, BTS’ immense contribution to the world of music has made them an undeniable force. We are humbled to be partnering with them on the Permission to Dance challenge on YouTube Shorts, helping to spread happiness and build lasting connections amongst their fans on YouTube across the globe. We are stoked to see the ARMY dance!”

‘Permission to Dance’ is BTS’ third English-language single

Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac, Johnny McDaid, and Jenna Andrews wrote “Permission to Dance,” and Mac, Stephen Kirk, and Andrews produced the song. Following “Dynamite” and “Butter,” “Permission to Dance” is the third English-language single in BTS’ discography.

BTS released “Permission to Dance” as a single and as an additional track on a physical CD of “Butter.” The song recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
