Dan Wootton suspended pending investigation into ‘serious allegations’ he denies

Dan Wootton has been suspended from his role as a columnist at MailOnline following a string of "serious allegations" which he denies.

The GB News presenter, 40, has been the focus of recent allegations that he offered money to colleagues for videos of sexual activity.

It has also been alleged that he used two pseudonyms to request sexual content of others.

Dan later denied allegations on his GB News show and told viewers that the claims made by the Byline Times were “simply untrue”.

He then issued a public plea days after for cash to help fund his legal fight against the claims and launched a donation page.

Aside from his GB News job, the presenter also has a lucrative job writing a column for MailOnline twice a week.

However, Dan has been suspended from the publication – where he has worked since 2021.

In a statement, DMG Media who own MailOnline confirmed his work with them has been "paused" pending an independent investigation.

They said: "We are continuing to consider a series of allegations which Dan Wootton – who has written columns for MailOnline since 2021 as one of several outside freelance contributors – has strenuously denied.

"The allegations are obviously serious but also complex and historic and there is an independent investigation under way at the media group which employed him during the relevant period. In the meantime, his freelance column with MailOnline has been paused."

Despite the allegations, Dan Wootton Tonight continues to air on GB News every Monday to Thursday at 9pm.

Many of the allegations relate to the time when Wootton was employed by The Sun, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK.

A spokesperson for News UK responded to the allegations: "We’re looking into the allegations made in recent days. We are not able to make any further comment at this stage."

And a spokesperson for Mail owners DMG Media added at the time: "We are aware of the allegations and are looking into them."

Peter Jukes of Byline Times recently told Yahoo: "This is a very Trumpian tactic. Trump was alleged to have broken various US laws, and rather than address those issues of fact, he said it’s a conspiracy and a witch hunt.

"Exactly the same language is used by Wootton – you attack the motive. I understand why he’s doing that on a personal level, it’s not very convincing on an evidential level."

They added that they pursued the story because of alleged personal behaviours and "things we believe are wrong individually".
