Johnny Depp has celebrated his defamation case victory with a surprise £50,000 visit to a Birmingham curry house.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed the actor, 58, had won his libel battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard in a courtroom in Fairfax, Virginia.

Depp was in England as the verdict was read, joining rock star Jeff Beck on his UK-wide tour and on Sunday night, the festivities continued.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is reported to have hired out Varanasi on Broad Street, Birmingham, where he spent a cool £50,000 on food and drink at the upmarket food venue with his entourage in tow.

Depp is said to have spent approximately three hours inside the restaurant in "good spirits", hugging and showing affection to other diners.

Alongside his entourage, the actor dined on a "banquet" of food including "butter chicken, king prawn bhuna, paneer tikka masala and lamb karahi".

The group are also said to have enjoyed "a few drinks of wine, champagne and all sorts".

After chatting with staff members, the Edward Scissorhands star ordered the same food once more to take back to his hotel room and left a "large tip" before exiting the venue.

Of Depp's unexpected visit, Varanasi owner Mohammed Hussain said: "They came in through a secret entrance and we sat them in a private room

"I won't disclose how much it cost but the figures I have seen £50,000 are not far off the mark at all.

"We had to cancel existing diners' reservations, so it does cost a fair bit to hire out the entire place but it was an amazing experience.

"They spent a lot of money, it's a big venue to hire out, but they never even looked at the bill. He gave a large tip."

The businessman claims he thought it was a prank at first but Johnny's security later visited the popular eatery.

Hussain went on to describe Depp as 'very humble, quietly spoken, a gentleman and a nice guy.'

Earlier this month, a jury ruled Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard had defamed him with a 2018 op-ed publishing in The Washington Post, in which she was referred to as a domestic abuse survivor.

The Aquaman actress, 36, has since been ordered to pay him $8.35 million in damages.
