Emmerdale’s Natalie Ann Jamieson asked if she was pregnant after weight gain

Natalie Ann Jamieson said that it was "not okay" to ask if a woman is pregnant after she was quizzed by a fan online.

The British actor, who joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2019, recently opened up about the insensitive topic of asking women whether they were having a baby.

Speaking to the Metro about the expectations placed on women, Natalie Ann revealed that the amount of pressure put on women can sometimes prove "difficult".

During her conversation, the actor – known for playing Amy Wyatt – also revealed that she had been asked by a fan whether she was pregnant.

She said: "Recently online, I was asked if I was pregnant and I am sure they were coming from a good place but it was because they had noticed from a photo I had posted that I had put on a bit of weight. It’s not okay to ask that.

"The thinking behind that is the level of expectancies on women – the only reason you would ever put on weight would be if you were pregnant?"

Just last month, viewers were left in shock when she took her son away from Cain Dingle, despite giving up her parental rights.

Natalie's debut as Amy Wyatt on Emmerdale was actually marked on International Women's Day in 2019.

It is a special day for the actor, and she also took to social media to pen a tribute to the day's global celebrations.

Taking to Twitter, Natalie shared a post that read: "Behind every successful women is a tribe of other successful women who have her back."

Alongside the post, she added: "Keep lifting each other up lasses."

Natalie is the second actress to play Amy Wyatt, after original actress Chelsea Halfpenny left the role in 2013 after three years on our screens.
