Glastonbury Festival is one of the most popular music events in the world, having had major names light up the Pyramid Stage. It was called off in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the same fate seemed to befall the 2021 festival. Fresh hopes have since been ignited about this year’s festival – so is Glastonbury back on?

Is Glastonbury Festival 2021 back on?

The Glastonbury Festival as we know it is, sadly, not returning in 2021.

However, a special one-off event has just been granted permission to go ahead in September, meaning some fans will get the chance to enjoy the Glastonbury vibes.

According to the Daily Mail, Mendips District Council granted permission for Glastonbury to hold the event after consultations took place in the area.

It will be limited to just 50,000 people, compared to its usual size, but will take place once aga in at the iconic Worthy Farm.

Sam Phripp of the council said: “We hope that, Covid-depending, this event will be a success, and we look forward to welcoming music lovers back to our corner of Somerset this autumn.

“With a view to Covid-19, of course, any event would have to be Covid-safe, and @MendipCouncil will work with other organisations and the organisers to make sure that’s the case.”

Of the 50,000, 10,000 will be staff members, meaning the number of tickets will likely be limited.

As well as that, there is no provision for camping at the venue, meaning it will be just a one day event.
