Iconic TV mum in Dennis the Menace dies just one day after her birthday

Gloria Henry, the iconic TV mum of Dennis the Menace has died just one day after her birthday.

Her daughter, Erin, confirmed her passing to the Hollywood Reporter, stating she had died in her home in Los Angeles.

Gloria's cause of death was unconfirmed.

She had starred in movies alongside Gene Autry, Lucille Ball and George Raft before getting the role as Alice Mitchell, Dennis the Menace's mother.

She played the role for four seasons beginning in October 1959 and became known as the archetypal mother.

"Many of the fans say, 'Oh, I always wished you were my mom' and 'My mom was jealous of you, because I wanted you for a mom,'" she said in a 2011 interview with New Jersey.com.

"Which is pretty funny, because I don't think my own children felt that way."
