The feud between Liam and Noel Gallagher is almost as famous as their music.
The brother’s rivalry has been public and at times violent and petty, involving tons of insults and even a legal battle.
Despite Oasis breaking up in 2009 because the inability of the Gallaghers to work together, the feud still carries on to this day, with the estranged brothers continuing to hurl insults at each other in the press and on Twitter.
To truly understand how these two fell out so badly, we looked back to the beginning of their feud and traced all the barbs and fights to present day.
1994
The first cracks in the brother’s relationship began to show during a a gig at Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles.
After a famously terrible set Liam began throwing insults and hit Noel with a tambourine after which he walked offstage before the show had ended.
A furious Noel quit the tour the next day, though he eventually returned after cooling off in Las Vegas for a few days.
1995
Wibbling Rivalry was a 14 minute audio recording of an interview with John Harris and the brothers that consists of the them bickering and throwing insults at each other, showing the public an in depth look of the pair's crumbling relationship.
In the recording Noel can be heard comparing Liam to a football hooligan while Liam tells Noel: “You can stick your thousand pounds right up your f***ing a**e ‘till it comes out your f***ing big toe.”
Then, during the recording of the second Oasis album, Liam brought a group of people to the studio where Noel was trying to work.
Noel responded by allegedly hitting his brother over the head with a cricket bat.
The bat was later rescued and sold at auction by writer Paolo Hewitt.
1996
The band was due to play MTV Unplugged but after Liam pulled out due to laryngitis Noel was left to take on singing duties.
Liam then proceeded to heckle Noel from the balcony while chain-smoking and drinking booze.
Then Liam pulled out of the US tour at the very last minute reportedly because he was looking for a house with then fiancée Patsy Kensit.
Noel later said this move “killed [Oasis] stone dead in America.”
Liam joined three days later but only a few days later Noel left, returning to England and cancelling the tour after just two weeks.
2000
It has been reported that in the middle of the band’s 2000 world tour the brother’s got into a fight where Liam allegedly questioned the legitimacy of Noel’s daughter Anais, who he shares with ex wife Meg Mathews.
Noel reportedly attacked Liam and quit the band for the second time, telling Q magazine: “I’ve never forgiven him because he’s never apologised.”
2005
By this point the relationship between the Gallaghers was extremely strained and the brothers repeatedly took to the press to air grievances with one another.
In October 2005 Noel gave an interview with Spin magazine where he confessed to using mental manipulation on Liam, saying: “I’ve kind of learnt that instead of arguing stuff out with him and ending up in a fight, I work on his psychology and he’s completely freaked out by me now.
“He’s actually frightened to death of me. I can read him and I can f***ing play him like a slightly disused arcade game.”
2009
In a now famous interview with Q, Noel describes Liam: “He’s rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy. He’s the angriest man you’ll ever meet. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”
Oasis finally split after an argument broke out before they were due to go onstage at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris, with Liam reportedly wielding Noel’s guitar around “like an axe”.
The show and tour were cancelled and Noel issue a statement stating: “It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
Noel later claimed the argument had sprung up over an ad for Liam’s clothing firm Pretty Green in the V Festival programme, which Liam later sued Noel for libel, saying it was a “false” account of events.
2016
In May 2016 Liam began his now infamous string of ‘potato’ tweets, by tweeting out a picture of Noel with the caption “POTATO”.
He continued the childish game of comparing Noel to a potato over the next year and told an interviewer: “Lots of people say I need to chill out about Noel.
“Not until they stop Twitter. That c**t will always get it from me.”
Noel responded by saying: “I guess it was about him staying relevant. If you’re him, what else is there to tweet about?”
2017
Liam made a surprise appearance at the One Love Manchester benefit concert which raised money to support the victims and families affecting by the terrorist bombing at Ariana Grande’s Manchester arena concert that year.
The day after the event Liam took to Twitter to criticise his brother for not showing up, calling him a “sad f**k” and adding: “F**k the reunion mate it ain't about Oasis it's about people helping other people and he's once again shown his true f***ing colours.”
Four months later Noel headlined a benefit concert at Manchester Arena and broke down in tears which led Liam to respond: “NG broke down in tears cmon you seriously ain't buying that he doesn’t give a f**k.”
Noel replied by saying: “He needs to see a psychiatrist. I don’t say that as a joke. Because young Mancunians, young music fans, were slaughtered, and he, twice, takes it somewhere to be about him. He needs to see somebody.”
2018
In January Liam tweeted: “F**k the truce” in response to several interviews that Noel had given that painted him in a poor light.
In one post, Noel ruled out reuniting the band, saying “I don’t particularly want to be a stadium rocker when I’m 50, I think it’s undignified.”
Liam responded, “It's a lot more undignified to be supporting the undignified in stadiums RHCP U2 blah.”
2020
During lockdown Noel released a never before heard song recorded at an Oasis soundcheck in Hong Kong, China “about 15 years ago”, called Don’t Stop.
The unheard of song only featured Noel on the vocals leading Liam to respond: “If you're gonna release old demos make sure I'm singing on it and Bonehead's playing guitar… if not, it’s not worth a w**k.”
2021
Back in February, after a fan reached out asking Liam if Oasis would ever get back together, Liam responded “It's gonna happen.”
The comments led to a flurry on rumours on social media the band would come back leading Liam to comment that he's “ready to go" with an Oasis reunion
However he warned brother Noel that he'd "piss an Oasis gig standing on my head", adding: "The little fella knows it as well, that’s why he’s scared to share the stage with me as I'd OWN it.”
