A UK farmer was left with a massive, potentially life-threatening triple hernia after his operation was delayed for a year due to COVID.

“The hernia has continued to grow and grow,” Winston Baldwin told the Daily Mail of the behemoth bulge, which has rendered the Hampshire resident nearly unable to walk or even use the bathroom.

“I’m just surviving now and it’s not good at all,” lamented the poor soul. “I want to work on my farm, I just want my life back. I’d go anywhere for treatment from Madrid to Lagos.”

Baldwin, 72, had developed the huge hernia — where an organ or tissue pokes through a weak spot in muscle or skin — following a bowel operation in 2019. The agriculturalist was slated to have it fixed in February 2020; however, the procedure kept getting postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

“High levels of COVID-19 activity, unfortunately, resulted in delays for routine planned care,” said a spokesperson for the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Leighton Hospital where the operation was scheduled to take place.

In the interim, doctors gave the farmer a corset for his back, which did little to alleviate his bulbous burden.

The hernia has since ballooned to mammoth proportions, according to Baldwin, who claims he’s experiencing “constant back pain.”

Baldwin said he was told an operation at this stage could be potentially fatal, but he feels that his “pain is life-threatening too.”

‘I’m just surviving now and it’s not good at all.’

The NHS spokesperson said the organization is investigating the farmer’s case.

“We are currently looking into this matter and will continue to liaise with Mr. Baldwin directly about his ongoing care and treatment,” they said, adding that they’d “like to apologize for the delays experienced during what we appreciate has been a worrying time.”

Baldwin isn’t the first person to sprout a humongous hernia. Retired celebrity bodyguard Dean Carron was left with a possibly record-breaking 70-pound behemoth after his appendectomy incision failed to heal properly.
