Inside Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle’s relationship and how she ‘ghosted’ him

Meghan Markle has been the target of many rants by former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan over the years.

But this week the rants reached another level when more than 41,000 people complained to Ofcom about his conduct.

Morgan made several comments about “not believing” Meghan after she discussed previously feeling suicidal in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It was eventually announced that Morgan, who has co-presented GMB alongside Susanna Reid for five years, would leave the show.

What many may not know, is that his relationship with Meghan actually stems back several years – before things seemingly took a turn.

Here we take a closer look at how Meghan and Piers know each other – and why their relationship turned sour.

The former GMB host’s friendship with Meghan started in 2015, when she was acting on the show Suits.

According to Piers, the actress “slid” into his direct messages after he followed her on social media.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, he said: “She immediately direct messaged me, she slid into my DMs faster than a greyhound.”

He then said the pair began chatting about all sorts of things, with Meghan saying she was a “big fan” of his.

Then, the relationship turned sour after Meghan allegedly “ghosted” him after they had met for drinks.

When Meghan was in London in June 2016, they met for drinks at his favourite pub.

In a 2018 Daily Mail column which begins with the words “I was ghosted by Meghan Markle”, Piers added: “At this point, I was indeed labouring under the massive misapprehension that we were friends. I was wrong.”

He claimed that he put Meghan in a taxi, and she went to meet Prince Harry for dinner.

Piers added that she had gone on a “solo date with him the next night, and I never heard from her again. Not a word. I’d been ghosted”.

The TV presenter took great offence to this perceived snub, writing: “I’d been ‘played’ by a couple of B-list actors, who were clearly just using me to advance their careers.”

Meghan has never responded to these claims, or given her side of the story.
