Jesy Nelson ‘devastated’ over personal attack backlash after Instagram live

Jesy Nelson is said to be “devastated” by the backlash to her Instagram live stream with Nicki Minaj, believing it to be a “personal attack against her”.

US rapper Nicki Minaj was blasted by fans for “bullying” Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock in the video.

The 38-year-old slammed Leigh-Anne as “jealous” and a “clown” after an influencer leaked messages apparently from the star asking him to expose Jesy's ‘blackfishing’.

Blackfishing is a term used when a white person uses black culture and aesthetics for their own gain.

While Jesy did not join in on the rant about her former bandmate, the 30-year-old did burst into laughter at Nicki’s comments, causing huge fan backlash.

Now sources are claiming that she is distressed by the public reaction, telling Metro: "What should have been a positive and happy celebration has been somewhat tainted by what has started to feel like a personal attack against her.

"It’s starting to become a Little Mix vs Jesy storyline, when ultimately the band and Jesy have always stood for women supporting women and so it’s a shame to see this taking such a sour turn.”

The source added: “Jesy has been saddened to hear that so called friends have been encouraging online hate towards her, and whilst she appears in a much better head space after going solo, friends and family are checking in with her daily to make sure she’s okay.’”

The insider explained that the star turned straight to Nicki when the accusations of blackfishing emerged.

“She’s devastated to have caused any offence and one of the first people she spoke to was Nicki to talk it through. She won’t make any excuses as Jesy understands she still has a lot of learning to do and takes full responsibility for not always getting it right,” they said.

Leigh-Anne and her Little Mix bandmates Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall have so far not commented on the controversy but did all unfollow Jesy on Instagram over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Jesy has insisted that her tan and curly hair are natural and said that she never wanted to offend anyone, though admitted that she had been warned by Leigh-Anne previously.
