Jesy Nelsons Team Laughs Off Rumors of Debut Album Delay After Blackfishing Controversy

When setting the record straight on the speculations, the ‘Boyz’ songstress’ team claims the singer ‘is still in the studio recording new music’ and says ‘a second single is in the works.’

AceShowbizJesy Nelson is not putting her music on pause amid blackfishing drama. After it’s reported that her debut album release would be delayed due to the controversy, the “Boyz” songstress’ team has shut down rumors.

“To claim that an album would be released after one single release is literally laughable and obviously was never part of the plan,” the 30-year-old singer’s team told The Mirror on Tuesday, October 26. “Jesy is still in the studio recording new music and a second single is in the works. Anybody working in the music industry knows that an album would never follow one single release.”

It was also said that the vocalist has been facing severe trolling for a while and “[she] has kept a dignified silence despite the vindictive swipes against her.” In the meantime, an official spokesperson for Polydor Records said, “An album was never planned for Jesy Nelson in 2021 and therefore these claims are untrue.”

Jesy team’s statement came after an insider claimed that her debut album release will be delayed as she’s facing backlash over blackfishing drama. “There was lots of excitement that the album would be ready in time for Christmas. Jesy spent months in the studio at the top of the year after leaving Little Mix and had loads of songs ready to go,” the insider said.

“But the rollout for ‘Boyz’ took a long time and the team and Jesy don’t want to release an album after only putting out one single,” the source added. “The hope now is that a full collection will follow next year.”

Jesy was accused of blackfishing in the music video for her debut solo single, “Boyz”. In a leaked text chain, her former bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock appeared to suggest Jesy had darkened her skin and changed her hair to appear more black in the promo.

Shortly afterwards, Jesy apologized publicly for potentially offending anyone after being accused of blackfishing during an Instagram live with Nicki Minaj, who also appeared in the MV. “I personally want to say that my intention was never, ever to offend people of color with this video and my song because like I said, growing up as a young girl, this is the music that I listened to,” she explained.

More recently, Jesy’s sister, Jade Nelson, also defended the singer. Taking to her Instagram account on October 21, Jade wrote, “When bullies deliberately, and under-handedly set out to hurt someone they never expect to get caught. That’s why they try to get other people to do it for them.”

“However, when they are exposed for and the victim simply stands up for themselves the bully quickly tries to turn the tables to make the victim take the blame,” Jade added. “That’s what bullies do.”

Jade continued to support her sister as saying, “I was taught never to be intimidated by bullies, but to stand up for myself when I have been wronged.” She stated, “My sister was targeted and bullied throughout her career.”

“Is this really what you want to do? Please all of you, media and everyone, just stop,” Jade asked people to stop bullying Jesy. She concluded her post, “Because you know her heart, her authenticity, her complete accepting and uncritical nature, I know you do.”
