John Lennon Was Cut Out of This Lady Gaga Music Video

Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous music videos, however, one of her videos was toned down a little compared to her original idea for it. The video in question was supposed to depict a resurrected John Lennon. Here’s a look at the video– and the connections between Gaga and John.

John Lennon was depicted in this Lady Gaga video alongside other icons

Firstly, a little background. Gaga’s videos are full of avant-garde imagery, from the biker apostles in “Judas” to the barnyard mermaid in “You & I” to her kissing the New York City sidewalk in “The Edge of Glory.” One of her videos had even more pizzazz than most.

The video for her single “G.U.Y.” includes Michaelangelo’s David, Andy Cohen, the stars of The Real Housewives, Greek mythological and biblical imagery, and swimming pool choreography. At one point, Gaga helps to resurrect a few important people using minecraft. Those people are Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi, Michael Jackson, and John. However, John is obscured in the video. To know he was even supposed to be in the video, you’d have to check the end credits. Alexander Karavay, the actor who played John, told TMZ he was upset he didn’t appear in the final cut because he informed his family he would be in the video. He did not know if John was removed from the video at Gaga’s request.

Why Lady Gaga compared herself to John Lennon

The connection between the two artists is more extensive than that. During an interview with NME, Gaga compared herself to John. “I am perpetually unhappy with what I create,” she said. “Even though I might tell you that ‘Edge Of Glory’ is a pop masterpiece, when it’s all said and finished there will be things I dread, and every time I listen to it I’ll hear them.”

She added: “In John Lennon’s Playboy interview he talked about how he hated certain songs because of the way they were finished. And they might be my favorite songs, but Lennon couldn’t listen to them.”

Does Lady Gaga prefer John Lennon or Paul McCartney?

Gaga doesn’t just compare herself to John. In addition, she’s a massive fan. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she was asked if she preferred Paul McCartney or John. “I love Paul so much, but I was and will always be a Lennon girl,” she replied. In addition, she’s covered John’s most famous ballad, “Imagine,” on numerous occasions.

Who had more No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100?

This raises an interesting question: Which artist performed better on the charts? After he left The Beatles, John had two No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. They were “Just Like Starting Over” and “What Gets You Thru the Night.” On the other hand, Gaga has had five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 thus far. Those singles are “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Shallow,” and “Rain on Me.” Regardless of who had more No. 1 singles as a solo artist, John clearly means something to Gaga.
