Kendrick Lamar Drives Fans Wild After Announcing Release Date for New Album

The Grammy Award-winning rapper shares the announcement around eight months after revealing that he was producing his final Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) album.

AceShowbizKendrick Lamar is back. The “HUMBLE” hitmaker recently sent the Internet into a frenzy after announcing the release date for his long-awaited album, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”.

The 34-year-old rapper shared the announcement on Twitter and Instagram on Monday, April 18. On the blue-bird app, he quote-retweeted a February post which read, “Kendrick Lamar is officially retired.” Alongside the tweet, he wrote down a link to his Oklama website.

In the website, there were two folders one of which showed a scan of a statement on pgLang letterhead. “The following statement was released today by oklama, through his company, pgLang at 11:00am PT in Los Angeles, CA,” it read, before noting that the new album will arrive on May 13. The message added, “All factual information for this release will come directly from this source only.”

Unsurprisingly, fans flooded the comment section to express their excitement. “NO F**KING WAY NO F**KING WAY THIS IS NOT REAL,” one person exclaimed. “I JUST FELL TO MY FEET IN WALMART OMGG,” another replied. A third asked in disbelief, “WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT IT’S HAPPENING?????” Someone else chimed in, “IM FREAKING OUT WHAT THE F**K.”

“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” will be Kendrick’s first album in more than five years. The forthcoming project will follow his “DAMN”, which celebrated its fifth anniversary on April 14.

Kendrick divulged in August 2021 that he was producing his final Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) album. “I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence,” he began the message.

Hinting that he had contemplated for a long time before making the decision, the Grammy Award-winning artist added, “I go months without a phone.” He continued, “Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family. While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next.”

“As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 year,” he further elaborated. “The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.”
