Love Island’s Mollie Salmon’s family issues apology after ‘ignorant’ insult

Love Island babe Mollie Salmon has come under fire after saying that one of her "icks" is people having allergies.

The comment caused quite the stir online and Mollie was inundated with fans online questioning how she could have an "ick" against people with potential life threatening allergies.

On Aftersun Mollie was asked what her biggest turn-off was and she said: "I dated a boy with loads of allergies, when you go to a restaurant and you can't eat anything on the menu and it's really frustrating."

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: "Sorry people can't help if they have life-threatening allergies. The ignorance is too much."

Another wrote: "@LoveIsland I fully appreciate you can't possibly know about every medical condition but surely you understand food allergies can be life threatening.

"Mollie's comment was watched by thousands of impressionable viewers. It's irresponsible to have included this."

A third said: "#LoveIsland missed an opportunity here to raise awareness. I think her date had a lucky escape from an uneducated woman "turned off" by food allergies and difficult eating in restaurants."

Following the backlash, Mollie's family took to Instagram to issue a statement.

They wrote: "On behalf of Mollie we'd like to apologise for any upset caused by the allergy comment made.

"This was not said with any bad intentions and wasn't said to purposely be offensive or upset anyone. Mollie herself suffers from an allergy to seafood.

"Thank you for your continued love and support."

While Mollie caused some upset for fans, she seems to be capturing the boys' attention in the villa.

Although Jacques O'Neill is still thinking about Paige Thorne, he's been sharing a bed with Mollie and some fans are predicting a recoupling of their own.

The relationships have been put to the ultimate test with Casa Amor causing quite the stir already – but can anyone withstand the looming recoupling?

Romances could fizzle out or heat right up – but fans will have to wait and see to find out who will stay and who will go.

Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
