Meghan and Harry’s contacts ‘half the reason why Netflix signed them’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “prodigious address book” is “half the reason” why they were given deals with Netflix and Spotify, a royal biographer has claimed.

Since leaving the Royal Family in early 2020, Harry and Meghan’s new celebrity lifestyle has seen the couple take on a number of new ventures, including signing high-profile deals with streaming giants Netflix and Spotify.

But, without a release on either platform since a solo podcast episode last Christmas, commentators have recently speculated that their bosses might be expecting a return on their investment soon.

And now, royal biographer Andrew Morton – who penned a book on Princess Diana – has claimed that a key reason the Sussexes were signed to these deals was because of their celebrity contacts.

“They are now, on a global stage, known for their first names. You don’t really think of them as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex anymore, you think about them as Meghan and Harry,” Andrew claimed, speaking on the Royally Us podcast.

“They have got a prodigious address book, which is probably half the reason why Netflix and Spotify signed them up.

“As far as they’re concerned, they’re going to have to learn very quickly to be TV producers.”

Andrew made reference to the Obamas, another couple who have been able to transition into celebrity lifestyle from public service roles.

He continued: “So they’re leading a very opulent life, and they have a path laid down for them by the Obamas, who have been very successful so far as TV producers – one of their offerings won an Emmy.”

Similar to the Sussexes, the Obamas have launched their own TV production company, 'Higher Ground Productions'. This led to the couple winning an Emmy for documentary film 'American Factory'.

As well as signing lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, the Duchess of Sussex has also recently penned a letter to US politicians calling for paid parental leave for all parents.

This has led some experts to suggest that the former actress has now "launched a political career" as her next project.
