In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Michael Jackson and Madonna were both enormously famous pop stars. The King of Pop had been thriving from his multi-platinum-selling albums Thriller, Bad and Dangerous, while Madonna herself had also found incredible success with albums Like A Virgin and Like A Prayer. Throughout the height of their fame, MJ and Madonna were spotted out and about on various dates, and even attended an Academy Awards night together.

Unfortunately, it all changed in the early 2000s.

Despite spending a lot of time together throughout the ’90s, Michael eventually resided in calling her “mean”.

Michael discussed their relationship with his spiritual adviser Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, CNN and Showbiz Cheatsheet reports.

During the 30 hours of recorded conversation, Michael said of Madonna: “She is not a nice person.”

The pair’s disdain for one another apparently stemmed from a get-together in the early 2000s which led Michael to believe she was “rude”.

He told his advisor: “Madonna laid the law down to me before we went out.

“[She said]: ‘I am not going to Disneyland, OK? That’s out.’ I said: ‘I didn’t ask to go to Disneyland.’

“She said: ‘We are going to the restaurant. And afterwards, we are going to a strip bar.’”

This interaction was enough for Michael to cut all ties with the Vogue singer.

He replied: “I said: ‘I am not going to a strip bar, where they cross-dress … I am not going there.

“‘If that’s how it is, forget this whole thing.'”

It was then that things turned ugly between the once romantic couple.

Michael claimed: “Afterwards, she wrote some mean things about me in the press.

“And I wrote that she is a nasty witch after I was so kind to her.”

Despite the bad blood between them, Madonna did write a lengthy tribute to Michael after he died on June 25, 2009.

She wrote in the article: “Yes, yes Michael Jackson was a human being, but dammit, he was a king. Long live the king.”

The pair’s relationship wasn’t always so bitter, though.

Madonna told James Corden that she shared a romance with Michael in the 1990s.

She explained to him during Carpool Karaoke that they “kissed with tongues” before adding: “Well I [made the first move] if you want to know the truth, because he was a little bit shy, however, he was a willing accomplice.

“I did get him to loosen up with a glass of Chardonnay – and it did wonders! It worked wonders.”
