Michael Jacksons transformation – nose job riddle, lip tattoo, speckled body

Michael Jackson died 13 years ago but his popularity endures.

People still love the late King of Pop's music and are interested in the details of his fascinating life.

Think MJ, and sparkly gloves, the Thriller dance and a chimp called Bubbles come to mind. And plastic surgery isn't usually far behind.

Though Jacko didn't say too much about the surgery gossip, his appearance changed a huge amount over the years and it's thought that he went under the knife to have several procedures.

We have a look at his transformation over the years.

Skin changes

The singer's skin definitely appeared to get paler as he got older.

But in the 90s he said that he suffered from vitiligo, which according to the NHS is caused by the lack of melanin and "is a long-term condition where pale white patches develop on the skin".

Dermatologist Dr Arnold Klein – who had a long association with the hitmaker – confirmed that diagnosis when he was interviewed by Larry King after the singer died.

"His was bad because he began to get a totally speckled look over his body," he said.

Nose jobs

The singer did confirm that he'd had work done on his nose – although people reckoned he had more ops than he said he did.

He opened up in his 2002 interview with Martin Bashir, saying: "I've had no plastic surgery on my face. Just my nose. It helped me breathe better so I can hit higher notes."

When pressed on the subject and asked if he'd really only had one op, the Man In The Mirror singer said it was two.

"As I can remember. Yes, just two," he said.

Chin dimple

Earlier snaps of the US star showed him with a rounded chin.

But in later images he had a clearly defined cleft that made his face look decidedly different, leaving fans stunned with the new look.

MJ apparently confirmed in his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk that he did have the dimple created in his chin on purpose, as well as his two nose jobs.

Cheek implants

Lots of fans – and doctors – have speculated about the singer having cheek implants because the shape of his face appeared to change so much.

Michael – who was 50 when he passed away following an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol – didn't confirm he'd had his cheeks sculpted, although they clearly started to look more defined.

In fact, he was once quoted as saying that he inherited his cheekbones from his dad Joe, who apparently had Native American ancestry.

"My father has the same thing," he once said. "We have Indian blood."

Lips

Michael's lips did appear to alter as he got older, growing slightly thinner..

However some people have noted that it could just have been a result of ageing rather than any plastic surgery.

One thing that did come out of his autopsy was that the star had a pink tattoo around the edge of his lips, which could explain why they were looking different.
