Former One Direction star Harry has spent more than 60 weeks at the top of the charts with his second album, Fine Line. The record was released on December 13, 2019 and has maintained a strong position ever since. The album went platinum in October 2020 after surpassing 300,000 sales. Harry recently gave an insight into his writing process and the struggles he faces with creating new hits.

The 27-year-old said in an interview: “I have always made my worst music when I’m trying the hardest.

“And when it feels a little bit too easy. And feels a bit safe and it’s just like: ‘Oh yeah, this is what people want…’ I write it.”

Harry has been writing hits since 2010 when he joined One Direction on The X Factor.

Despite coming third in the competition Harry, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan released five albums in the years that followed.

The quintet sold more than 36 million records in their time together, including 20 million singles and 11 million albums.

Harry gave some insight into how he creates such well-loved music, revealing: “I try to write music as a fan of music.

“I just don’t really know how else to do it, I guess. Ultimately, everyone who works in music are just fans.

“Like I’m just a fan of music and get to make some, so I try to make it from that perspective.”

Harry previously appeared on SiriusXM Radio where he spoke about writing and recording his second album, Fine Line.

He said: “The process of making that album was feeling free.”

The Golden singer added that his confidence as a solo artist came “after feeling accepted by the crowds”.

The star said: “When I went out to do shows on my own, I was amazed people were coming to see me.”

Harry, who is currently dating Hollywood director Olivia Wilde, was recently spotted out with fellow former 1D star Niall.

The pair were seen taking a socially distanced walk in Los Angeles, where they both live.

Harry is also filming in LA for his upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling, which is being directed by Wilde.

Harry and Niall’s rendezvous has sparked even more speculation around whether the band will reunite in the coming months.

At the moment the odds on One Direction reuniting in 2021 are at an all time high with 1/3 from bookmaker Coral.

These odds are without Zayn, however, who left the band nine months before the band split.

If the band reunite this year the odds of Zayn joining them are 5/4.

Harry Styles’ Fine Line is available on all music platforms.
