One Direction: Zayn Malik’s new album drops off top 100 in latest chart update

Liam Payne reveals ‘there’s more to come from One Direction’

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik launched his third album, Nobody is Listening, on January 15 of this year. Although his second album didn’t live up to the enormous heights reached by his first album, Nobody is Listening was expected to do quite well on the album charts – but to no avail. The exciting new album from Zayn reached number 22 on the iTunes album chart during its first week – but that was as high as it was going to go. Since then, it has dropped off the list by a staggering amount.

At the time of writing, Zayn’s third album now sits at 180 on the iTunes album chart.

The album’s flaccid performance isn’t just held in iTunes, however, as the Official Charts’ album list currently has Zayn’s latest entry at number 17.

This means the album hasn’t even cracked the top ten in the UK’s album charts just yet – a feat that might be expected of a former 1D member.

It has also been reported that Nobody is Listening’s sales numbers have been equally as disappointing.

The record apparently sold 3,600 digital and physical copies combined.

The same report claims the album was also only streamed around 14,000 times, with many of the streams coming from his featured singles, Better, and Vibez.

However, it isn’t all bad news, as Nobody is Listening has performed markedly better than his previous album, Icarus Falls.

The 28-year-old release his second album on December 14, 2018, to further critical praise.

Despite the fact critics enjoyed the album, it only reached number 77 at its peak on the UK album charts.

Icarus Falls followed Mind of Mine, which was released two years prior on March 25, 2016 – and was a smash hit.

The album was released less than a year after Zayn announced his exit from One Direction, and reached number one on the album charts in the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United States.

It sold around 230,000 copies worldwide and went Platinum, becoming the first solo album from the 1D boys to be a huge success.

Zayn didn’t do much promotion for his new album, except some tweets and other social media posts.

He did start a livestream on his Instagram account last week, though, where he chatted with fans whilst drinking beers and eating pizza.

Zayn explained to his 200,000 live viewers: “I’ve recorded a sick song today. It might seem a bit weird.

“I just sat at a computer. I looped four bars. But that’s all I can say. It’s sick, right?”

Comparatively, fellow former One Direction member Harry Styles has had consistent success with his two albums thus far.

His first album, which was self titled, peaked at number one on various album charts, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and the United States.

His second album, Fine Line, also peaked at number one in a collection of countries, and is still in the top ten of the album charts to this day.

Zayn Malik’s Nobody is Listening is out now.
