Oprah slammed for comments on Queen’s death after interview with Sussexes

Oprah Winfrey has been slated for saying she hopes that "burying the dead" will help Prince Harry and Meghan Markle find "peace" with the Royal family.

The American chat show host spoke frankly about Prince Harry and his brother Prince William's relationship and said she was hopeful that it can now be restored following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Talking to Extra she said: "I think in all families – you know, my father passed recently, this summer – and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there's an opportunity for peacemaking."

"And hopefully, there will be that," she added.

Despite trying to provide a positive take on the situation, the 68-year-old's comments didn't sit well with fans who previously accused her of igniting tensions with the family during her interview with Harry and Meghan.

Sharing their thoughts on Twitter, one person wrote: "Oprah talks about 'burying the dead' and says she hopes it will help Prince Harry and Meghan 'make peace' with the royals. She's priceless isn't she."

Another echoed: "Never scrutinised a word [Harry and Meghan] said… She calls herself a serious talk show host. Oprah forgets she started this. Maybe an apology would help with the peacemaking."

A third chimed: "Hey @Oprah if you cared for that family you wouldn't have given them a platform to badmouth the RF family. After your interview the anger between them widened. So stop the BS talk."

"Oprah has a cheek, when she provided the platform for Meghan to trash our Queen and Royal Family – and encouraged her!" another commented.

During the explosive Oprah interview, which aired on ITV in March 2021, Meghan openly discussed the previous rumours that she had brought Catherine, Princess of Wales to tears in the days before she married Prince Harry.

Although Meghan refused to share details about the rift, she said the disagreement pertained to the flower girls' dresses.

She told Oprah: "I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. 'It made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings.

"But she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising."

The Suits actress also shared her negative experiences with "the firm" and the effects it had on her mental health.
