Paul OGrady once used £5 note as poo bag then used the money in shop

Paul O'Grady has admitted he once used a £5 note as a poo bag then used the money in a shop.

The Paul O'Grady: For The Love of Dogs host has revealed that his beloved dog Buster needed to do 'his business' while the pair were out and about.

However, the 66-year-old did not have a poo bag to clean up his dog's mess so decided to improvise.

While speaking on BBC Radio 2 to Claudia Winkleman, he said: "When Buster was a puppy, I was out with him on the green. He did his business and I’m very conscientious. I always clean up after. And of course, no poo bag – all I had was a fiver.

"So over I went, picked it up with the fiver, and put it in the bin."

The Blankety Blank host explained how he returned how with dog Buster and didn't want to waste the perfectly good fiver.

He added: "Took Buster home, found a poo bag, went straight back, opened the bin, shook the fiver out into the poo bag."

Paul then explained how he returned home again, he said: "[I] wiped the fiver down, and then went to the shop and bought milk and a paper with it.’

Hopefully, this has taught Paul to always carry a doggy poo bag, even though he was awkwardly caught with one in his pocket while on stage accepting a prize at the National Television Awards.

The presenter, who previously hosted shows as his drag alter ego Lily Savage, said: "I was up there getting the awkward and I had my hand in my pocket and there was a dog biscuit and a poo bag in my pocket."

Paul’s beloved Shih tzu-bichon frise-cross Buster, who often appeared on TV with him, sadly died of cancer 12 years ago at the age of 14.

He also owned a Cairn Terrier called Olga who unfortunately was put down in 2018 due to suffering from kidney failure.
