He spoke about his wife's struggles in Apple TV's The Me You Can't See: A Path Forward as he relayed his own reasons for wanting to step back as a senior member of the Royal Family.

As the clip has done the rounds once again on social media following Harry and Meghan's return to the UK, fans have been left in tears over his comments.

One person wrote: "God, I'm sobbing here! Harry is describing pure horror as history repeats, yet even now no one in the Royal Family wants to admit the truth. I'm so happy he chose to do the right thing and leave a toxic environment."

While another wrote: "Meghan couldn't win from the start."

A third said: "I've never seen this before, I can understand the decision a lot more now."

A fourth wrote: "I think the statement “we tried to make it work for 4 years” is powerful. People should reflect on how that type of stress for so long would damage their own lives when they think about judging them."

The clip saw Harry open up on the response to him dating Meghan Markle as the news of their romance became public as he said he was "taken back to his mum" and what he experienced as a child.

As social media trolls also targeted Meghan he said he began to reach out for help, but he claimed he didn't get the support needed.

Harry reflected on the moment his wife told him about her suicidal thoughts as Harry said Meghan was "struggling" while she was heavily pregnant.

He said in the clip: "The scariest thing for her, was her clarity of thought. She hadn't lost it, she wasn't crazy. She wasn't self-medicating be it through pills or alcohol, she was absolutely sober. She was completely sane, yet in the quiet of night, these thoughts woke her up."

Harry reflected on the fact that the thing that stopped Meghan from seeing it through was that it would be "unfair" on Harry after "everything that happened" to him with the loss of his mum, Princess Diana.

The Duke of Sussex said he felt "ashamed" that it had got that bad, but also because after she told him they needed to leave the house the same evening for royal duties.

Harry opened up in the clip about going to therapy himself and wanting to focus on caring for his family.
