R&B artist Emani 22 reportedly dies aged 22 as rapper Bhad Barbie pays tribute

R&B artist Emani 22 has died at the age of 22, it has been reported.

News of the US singer's apparent death began circulating online on Monday evening with fans paying tribute to the star on social media.

Depsite not being confirmed by her family, a close friend of the musician, whose real name is Emani Johnson, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram in a touching message.

A tribute shared by the account alannatheballer read: "My heart hurts so bad. i love you so much emani.

"I’m so sorry this happened to you. you didn’t deserve this at all! you were such a light to so many of us.

"Thank you for always being so loving and kind to me. You always went above and beyond for me and always looked out for me.

"I love how bold you were and were never scared to tell me how you feel. I'm so happy we reconnected last year.’

A gallery of images of the star were also shared on the same social media profile.

Rapper Bhad Bhabie also remembered Emani online by posting photographs of the artist.

The artist amassed a huge 145,000 followers on Instagram, including star DJ Diplo.

Fans of Emani have since rushed to Twitter to pay their respects.

One fan penned: "Gutting to hear about Emani 22. rip angel."

Another added: "Damn emani22 hope your soul soars."

A third person posted: "fly high emani 22."

While a fourth social media user said: "Rest In Peace emani22, very sad to hear, I feel so bad for trippie as well."

"Emani 22 was and will always be a great artist, man, but what bad news for her to rest in peace," a fifth follower wrote.

Someone else said: "Rest In Peace Emani 22. She would include me in things when the rest of her group didn’t really want me to.

"She spoke kind words and always uplifted others. She grew me so much as a singer and a performer but also a confidant. I am so grateful to have had her in my life."
