RuPauls Drag Race UK cast pays touching tribute to late star Cherry Valentine

The cast of RuPaul's Drag Race UK has paid an emotional onstage tribute to Cherry Valentine following their tragic death.

A former member of the traveller community and NHS nurse, Cherry – whose real name was George Ward – passed away on Sunday at the age of 28.

The shocking news of their death was confirmed by Cherry's devastated family in an emotional statement.

Following Cherry's passing being confirmed on Friday (September 23), queens from RuPaul's Drag Race UK paid their own touching tributes with an emotional onstage moment of silence.

Taking to the stage in Swansea, cast members from Drag Race UK's third series stood arm-in-arm as photos of Cherry both in and out of drag appeared on stage behind them.

Performers including Kitty Scott Claus, Chorizo May, Ella Vaday, Vanity Milan and series three winner Krystal Versace paid tribute as they marked Cherry's passing during The Official RuPaul's Drag Race UK series three tour at Swansea Arena Official.

The queens fell silent in front of an emotional and hushed crowd.

Cherry competed in the second series of the BBC Three show, which was won by Lawrence Chaney.

Posting their own tribute to Cherry on Twitter on Saturday (September 24), Lawrence wrote: "I still don't have words.

"Don't think I'll ever have words. First person I met from Series 2 and she was funny, gorgeous and so so talented. The kindest soul.

"Cherry got on with everyone. There was nothing not to like about her. Very caring beautiful human being!"

Sharing their own response to Cherry's death on Twitter, RuPaul wrote: "So sad to hear. A bright star and a lovely person. @TheCValentine. Always in our hearts."

Cherry's cause of death has yet to be revealed, with their family sharing: "As his family, we are still processing his death and our lives will never be the same.

"We understand how much he is loved and how many lives he has inspired and touched.

"All we ask is for your patience and your prayers in this time. We love you Georgie. 30 November 1993 – 18 September 2022.”
