Scream cast now – co-star marriage, divorces, grisly injury and crying after sex

It doesn’t feel like 25 years since the release of the first Scream film.

The Hollywood flick first debuted in the US on December 18, 1996 – setting it firmly in the realm of Christmas horror flick for all those concerned. In the UK its release came in May the following year.

It made a jaw-dropping $173million (£131m) at the box office, and even sparked a spin-off TV show.

Now, with the cast set to reunite for the fifth instalment of the iconic slasher flick franchise, Daily Star takes a look at where they’ve all ended up.

From sitcom success in Friends to toxic co-star divorces, it’s been an action packed quarter of a decade for them all.

Neve Campbell – Sidney Prescott

Along with starring in iconic TV shows including Mad Men, House of Cards and The Simpsons since her Scream debut, actress Neve Campbell – who played Sidney Prescott in the franchise – has had plenty going on in her personal life.

In 1995 she married Jeff Colt, though the couple divorced in 1998 just after Scream’s release. She soon met John Light on the set of Investigating Sex, and the pair began dating in 2005, becoming engaged two years later.

However, she filed for divorce in 2010.

Neve went on to date JJ Feild, and the pair welcomed their first child, Caspian, in August 2012. They adopted a second son, Raynor, in 2018.

Neve’s Scream career wasn’t without its drama, as she caused a gruesome injury to one of her co-stars while filming the movie.

She stabbed Skeet Ulrich – who played serial killer Billy – with an umbrella in one dramatic scene, but his screams of pain were real.

According to Screen Rant, the prop umbrella Neve used in the scenes had a retractable tip, while Skeet was wearing a protective vest underneath his shirt. Despite the safety precautions in place, when she stabbed him a second time, the umbrella missed and stabbed him in the chest.

As though that wasn’t bad enough, the weapon hit a leftover wound from an open heart surgery Skeet had undergone when he was younger.

Courteney Cox and David Arquette – Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley

Along with being synonymous with her Friends character Monica Geller, Courteney Cox shot to fame as Gale Weathers in the Scream franchise.

The star’s Scream stint was full of romance, as she met her future husband David Arquette on the set of the flick, in which they played love interests.

The pair dated for two years before David proposed in 1998, and Courteney double-barrelled her surname – something which was hilariously referenced in Friends, with all the other actors having "Arquette" added to their own names.

David told Bang Media that they met at a party before filming started, explaining: "I was being a little cocky and Courteney was like, 'Ah, I've heard of you,' and we just kept flirting for a while. She's just so gorgeous and she jokes around so much."

The couple share a daughter together, with Courteney’s Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston named as the godmother.

In 2013 Courteney and David eventually divorced, and she went on to get engaged to Snow Patrol star Johnny McDaid, though they soon called off the engagement despite remaining a couple.

Speaking about his first time sleeping with another woman after their split, David admitted he cried after sex to Us Weekly.

He said: "After the first girl I slept with [a few days later], I was, like, crying. It was the end of all the intimacy I shared with my wife. It was like a new thing. It was like… putting that away."

And the reason for their split has never truly surfaced, though they remained friends afterwards. David admitted to going "bananas" in "several midlife crises", which involved plenty of "circuses, nightclubs" and a motorcycle.

Skeet Ulrich – Billy Loomis

Best known for playing the first ever Scream villain, Billy Loomis, Skeet Ulrich has gone on to star in everything from The Craft to Riverdale.

His love life, too, has been hectic – in 1997 he married English actress Georgina Cates after the pair met at an Academy Awards party. The pair share twins together – daughter Naiia and son Jakob, born in 2001.

However, the pair divorced in 2005, citing irreconcilable differences, and Skeet went on to marry fellow actor Amelia Jackson-Gray in 2012, before they too divorced in 2015.

Skeet then got engaged to Brazilian model Rose Costa in 2016, though they separated just a year later.

Earlier this year reports emerged that Skeet was dating Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale, with one source telling Us Weekly that they spent "a lot of time together" and aren’t bothered by their 19-year age gap.

The insider added: "They are both kind and have a funny, but dark sense of humour."

However, the pair split in April this year.

Matthew Lillard – Stuart Macher

Best known for his work as Shaggy in the Scooby Doo live action movies, Matthew Lillard first shot to fame as killer Stuart in the first Scream flick.

Matthew, however, has no delusions of grandeur – despite once admitting he thought he was ‘God’.

Speaking to Daily Star back in 2015, the Hollywood star said: "There was a moment in the 90s when I thought I was a successful actor, I thought I was God.

"I had a big house and big cars and then I looked at my wife after not working for two years and realised I wasn't as big as I thought I was, my career hadn't gone where I thought it was going to go and I had to change.

"It doesn't serve me to be anything other than humble a working class actor.

"The only reason we are scared of doing that is because of ego."

Matthew married his wife Heather Helm in 2000, and the pair share three children.

Drew Barrymore – Casey Becker

Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has enjoyed an incredible career in flicks like Charlie’s Angels, 50 First Dates and Never Been Kissed. She even landed her own talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020.

But outside of her career, Drew’s personal life is just as interesting, with plenty of star-studded connections. She even owns her own vineyard!

The star is the godmother to Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of tragic rock star Kurt Cobain – who took his own life in 1994 aged just 27 – and his wife Courtney Love.

Drew has had plenty of her own romantic entanglements, originally becoming engaged to Leland Hayward’s grandson Leland in 1991 before calling it off just months later. She has also been engaged to Jamie Walters, before marrying bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994.

She filed for divorce less than two months later and went on to wed MTV host Tom Green, who she starred alongside in Charlie’s Angels. However, the pair’s divorce was finalised in 2002, and Drew dabbled in dating The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti and actor Justin Long.

Finally, the star married art consultant Will Kopelman, with whom she shares two daughters, Olive and Frankie.

They, too, divorced in 2016.

Drew is openly bisexual, and confirmed in a 2003 interview: "I love a woman's body. I think a woman and a woman together are beautiful, just as a man and a woman together are beautiful. Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else."
