Ed Bruce has died aged 81, it has been confirmed by representatives for the star.
A publicist for the singer turned actor revealed that he had died on Friday, January 8, from natural causes.
Throughout his phenomenal career, Ed became known as a country singer, as well as a talented actor appearing in the likes of Bret Maverick and The Chisholms.
However, the late star was most known for co-writing the famous hit song, Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be, with his then-wife, Patsy, in 1976.
The country smash was later covered by the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings who received a Grammy nomination for their rendition back in 1978.
Following the success of his hit, Ed went on to achieve a roaring career which seen him bag six Billboard Top 10 hits in the 1980s, including the 1981 smash, You're The Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had.
Since the news of his death, fellow musicians and his legion of fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late icon of the music genre.
Blake Shelton tweeted: "Just hearing that Ed Bruce passed away… What a stand-alone voice he had. He'll be remembered for his many talents including acting and maybe most important his songwriting… Rest In Peace cowboy. I'm not loving 2021 so far."
While one fan penned: "Loved him in Maverick and his song Girls, Women and ladies. Sad loss. RIP Mr Ed Bruce!"
A second added: "Ed Bruce had an amazing voice, I love his music, RIP."
"RIP Ed Bruce. Great writer and a great friend. Love to the family. BJ," said BJ Thomas.
Ed was born William Edwin Bruce Jr, on December 29, 1939, in Arkansas, America.
During the early stages of his showbiz career, he failed to achieve chart success after signing with RCA Records and later went on to do voice-overs for television and radio adverts.
His first glimpse of chart success came with the single Walker's Woods back in 1967
