TOWIE star Mick Norcross was found dead in his basement, inquest hears

An inquest into the death of Essex businessman and TOWIE star Mick Norcross has confirmed his cause of death.

A virtual inquest heard on Wednesday morning how the 57-year-old was found in the basement of his home in Essex.

They added his cause of death was suspension by ligature.

Assistant coroner Michelle Brown said they are still awaiting the toxicology report and results of a postmortem which were carried out at Basildon Hospital, Essex, on January 26.

Brown said: “We are still waiting for the toxicology and the post-mortem report.

“Also, I understand that mobile phone downloads and iPads are being looked into by the police.

“We also have a very detailed letter from a family member.”

The hearing has been adjourned until July 22.

Essex Police said in a statement: "We were called to an address in Brentwood Road, Bulphan shortly before 3.15pm on Thursday 21 January.

"Sadly, a man inside was pronounced dead. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

At 7.17am on Thursday 21, Mick took to Twitter to post a message of positivity telling his 500,000 followers: "At the end remind yourself that you did the best you could. And that is good enough."

The final tweet has since been met with thousands of replies paying their respect to the late star after the tragic news.

Mick's son Mark Norcross has now set up a charity Just Giving page in his father's memory.

He hopes to raise as much money as possible for mental health charity Mental Health Foundation.

Writing in the page's description, Mark said: "We have set up this page to raise money and awareness of a cause which is close to our hearts following the death of our family member, Mick Norcross, a much loved father, brother, partner, grandfather, uncle and friend.

"Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you would like. Every penny counts. Thank you x."

So far, the page has raised over £3,300 in his memory.

Mick shot to fame during the first few series of TOWIE, when his nightclub Sugar Hut was regularly featured.

The swanky venue was famous for wild parties and glamorous girls and often a focal point of TOWIE nights out.

But by 2013 Mick admitted he felt while the programme had raised the platform of the venue it was damaging the brand.

Mick told The Sun: "My club is an upmarket venue where people come to drink champagne and feel spoiled.

"All these rows they keep filming don’t show the club in a good light and I’m worried it’s putting people off coming, which is the last thing I want."

He continued to the publication: "Allowing the Sugar Hut Honeys to be called sl*gs is the final straw. I would never allow that to happen in my venue.

"I’ve had enough. I’m out."

After leaving TOWIE in 2013, Mick went on to be a property developer.

Speaking in 2018, Mick told of his ambition to built a property empire.

Crediting his father as his inspiration, Mick said: "He’s not with me anymore, unfortunately, neither is mum, but there was a time when he was alive, and I wouldn’t make a decision without a conversation with him.

"Unfortunately, when he died, you have to make them on your own, but I always sleep on a decision before making it, to give me time to think on how he would deal with this or that.

"I never aspired to be rich and famous, I’ve only aspired to want to be successful and that was my dad."

Tragically, Mick added to the publication that he hoped to relax in retirement.

Asked where he saw himself in ten years time, 2028, Mick replied: "Winding down, definitely.

"Thankfully, I’ve got my young family around me now, who are helping me.
