Bloke believes his body can predict storms after being struck by lightning

A man has claimed he inherited a very unique power after he was struck by lightning.

Kristoffer Green, 31, was on his way to the hospital with his daughter in November 2015 after she was stung by a wasp when he noticed dark clouds rolling in – and told his daughter to "watch out".

It was then that a lightning bolt struck the top of his umbrella and coursed through his body.

Mr Green told9News: "I was helping my wife get my daughter in the backseat of the car and I was holding an umbrella.

"The umbrella has a wooden handle, but the tip of my right index finger was resting on the metal pole in the centre.

“It was just like a blinding light, and then I blacked out. My wife said I just simply collapsed.”

Mr Green was rushed to hospital, where he was hooked up to a monitor. It showed that his heart was going at "a million miles an hour".

"When I woke up in the medical centre my wife was crying over me and I was just completely shocked. I had no idea where I was or what had happened," he added.

Mr Green was treated at the hospital and sent home the next day, lucky to have survived.

But despite his recovery, the physical and psychological effects of the strike lingered, with his right arm – where he was struck – tingling continuously for days.

And the Aussie, who used to love storms, quickly developed a fear of them.

"If there was a storm, I would get stressed and have heart palpitations," he said.

And though the constant arm tingling has subsided, Mr Green says it returns on one particular occasion – giving him psychic powers.

"For a few years after the strike, my right arm – where the lightning went through – would tingle and start to hurt before a storm was overhead," he explained.

"I even sometimes still do it. I'll say to my wife 'there's a storm coming, hun' and sure enough, a few hours later, there's a storm coming in."

Lightning strikes in the UK are extremely rare.

Between 30 and 60 people are struck per year and about three are fatal, says the RoSPA.

Meanwhile, in Mr Green's native Australia, between five and ten people are killed annually by the weather phenomenon.
