Furious Pizza Hut customer says he was sent old food in someone else’s doggy bag

A bloke who ordered a Pizza Hut delivery opened his lunch to find he’d been sent a pile of leftovers, with the restaurant admitting they’d sent him someone else’s doggy bag by mistake.

Darren Davies, 42, from Llanelli, Wales, said he was “dribbling” with anticipation when the Just Eat driver banged on his door, but his excitement turned to disgust when he opened the unsealed pizza box.

Inside were the remains of “dry old” pizzas with two different toppings and a slice missing – and no sign of the American BBQ pizza he’d ordered.

"On some slices, there looks like there's chicken on it and one is definitely vegetarian,” said customer services assistant Darren.

"There's definitely more than one different type of pizza in that box. It shouldn't happen during normal times, let alone when there's covid.

“I'd worked a whole shift, hadn't eaten all day and was desperately waiting for my break, and I'd ordered the pizza hours before – all in preparation for lunch.

"I was dribbling when I heard the door going. All I wanted was my pizza.

"I had to go back then and be all nice to customers on an empty stomach [while] very hangry.”

Darren says a member of staff at the restaurant immediately apologised, admitting it was a “disgraceful” mix-up and that he’d been sent leftovers that should have been given to Table 18 as a doggy bag.

He was given the chance to collect the right order from the store, but he didn't have enough time left on his lunch break to make the journey. He also says he was initially refused a full refund from Just Eat following the mix-up.

Pizza Hut has said sorry for the “isolated incident” and confirmed it’s investigating, while Just Eat said it was now processing a full refund after being contacted by the press.

Darren was working from home when the mistake happened, and his brother-in-law took delivery of his order.

"I finished my call, went downstairs and I took the box. There was no seal on it,” he said.

"They were all different slices – I'd ordered an American BBQ one. Normally, when you've got melted cheese there's a sheen, it's shiny and smells nice.

"The pizzas were all curled up because they'd been cooked a while before. They just had curled up, dry old pizza.”

A spokesperson for Pizza Hut said: "The health and safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to Pizza Hut and we are committed to maintaining high standards in all our branches.

"We are investigating the details of this isolated incident with our restaurant and also with Just Eat. We have reached out to the customer to apologise, ensure he receives a full refund as well as a thank you gesture for raising this to our attention.”
