Pic of two women going to Asda in pyjamas and dressing gowns baffles locals

A mum has labelled two women 'bizarre' for shopping at Asda at 5pm dressed only in pyjamas and dressing gowns.

The woman told Hull Live she would be "mortified" if someone saw her dressed the same in public, despite the pair seemingly unfazed by their wardrobe choice.

"It was just before 5pm and two women were walking towards the store in their pyjamas and dressing gowns," she said.

"I couldn't believe it. If you are still in your pyjamas at that time of day that's your business but to go to the shops like that is just bizarre.

"I would be mortified if someone saw me out and about in my pyjamas. They didn't even look embarrassed or anything."

It is not the first time customers have been mystified over other customers' choice of clothing.

A woman from Australia sent photos of a woman food shopping in pyjamas in 2017 to Yahoo News Australia, saying her sartorial choices "showed all dignity had gone out the window" while in 2017 a shopper snapped a picture of two women in the aisles shopping in dressing gowns at a Tesco in Salford.

But those who don nightwear for the weekly shop shouldn't be too concerned.

At the time, a Sainsbury's spokesperson told ITV: "We welcome customers shopping in our stores and we don’t have a dress code for them."

Iceland supermarket also responded, saying: "At Iceland we welcome all customers. Shoppers can come and browse our aisles wearing whatever they like, as long as they are wearing something."

Meanwhile a Lidl spokesman told ITV in 2017: "We do not have a policy relating to customer dress code."

A Marks and Spencer spokesman added: "We do not have a formal dress code in our stores and have not encountered any issues with shopping attire."

At the time, Asda said: "While we’d love all our customers to shop with us wearing head to toe George, so long as they’re not in their birthday suits we tend to leave outfit choice to them. After all, life’s one big catwalk!”
