Add this new cosy woodland cabin in Finland to your travel bucket list

With the end of lockdown in sight, travel finally seems like it might be an option again later this year.

And this new cabin in Finland should go straight onto your bucket list.

Located in the Salamajarvi National Park, the building is elevated on a single column – with the idea being that guests can feel detached from the world below them.

So, if you’re looking for the perfect escapist retreat, this really is it.

The hideout’s secluded nature is also a great option for those who still want to avoid busy crowds and bustling tourist destinations.

Finnish firm Studio Puisto is the brains behind this rural accommodation, which takes inspiration from a Niliaitta – a traditional building in Lapland that locals use as a safe place to store food away from wild animals.

Inside there’s a bed for two people but the bathroom and kitchen are within a rotating core in the middle of the cabin – this also houses all technology like the ventilation unit, air-source heat pump, water heater and electrical switchboard.

‘The solution makes it possible to keep the other walls and ceiling surfaces of the cabin as clean as possible, which creates a harmonious overall interior,’ explains Studio Puisto.

In other words, it keeps things looking neat and tidy.

The cabin is the first accommodation unit to be built for the new Kivijärvi Resort and the design firm say another 25 are expected to follow.

A night’s stay will set visitors back £282 a day in low season (January, April, November and December) and £335 a day in the high season (February to March and May to October).

Studio Puisto add: ‘For the future, a total of approximately 50 new accommodation units are planned for the area with an additional sauna and conference centre building designed for the shoreline – these structures will partially float above the water.

‘On an island in the lake, there will also be a bonfire, which is where all buildings in the entire Kivijärvi Resort area will be orientated towards.

‘This not only acts as a central physical orientation point for the resort area but also a mental one that allows us an opportunity to focus on just the essentials.’
