Butlin's extends holiday park closure until March due to UK lockdown

BUTLIN'S has been forced to extend their closure of all their holiday parks until March.

The parks were forced to closed due to the UK lockdown, which was announced on January 4.

While they hoped to open by mid-February, this has since been pushed back.

The closure affects all three Butlin's resorts – Bognor Regis, Skegness and Minehead.

In a statement, they explained: "Due to the uncertainty around when the current restrictions will be lifted, we have made the decision to extend our closure until the 28th February.

"We’re very sorry for the uncertainty during this time and want to thank you all for your continued support.

"For those of you booked on breaks immediately after this date, we will continue to update you via our social media channels, website and email.

"We very much look forward to welcoming you all back very soon."

Anyone with holidays booked up until February 28 will be contacted by Butlin's regarding refunds or moving the trip to a later date.

The UK lockdown bans all non-essential travel across the country, which means holidays cannot go ahead.

Before lockdown, only tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 residents were allowed to travel on holiday, while tier 4 were not.

The UK government will review the current lockdown next month but have warned it could be extended until March.

However, optimistic families have started booking summer holidays following the vaccine rollout which has already vaccinated 3m in the UK.

With plans to vaccinate all over-50s by May, experts have said staycation holidays are likely to return by the summer.

A staycation boom for 2021 has been predicted after many holiday parks and campsites sold out in 2020.

UK holiday parks have slashed their prices with some trips from just £5.50pppn.

Here is everything you need to know about booking a summer holiday this year.
